Austrian Wine to be presented at Finland’s Wine Fair ViiniExpo from March 13th to 15th in Helsinki: Booth number 4C17
(AWMB, March 2003) - One of Scandinavia’s largest wine fairs for the trade and consumers is also an attractive address for Austrian wineries. Finland’s largest independent wine magazine “Vinii” is one of the main organizers and dependable assurance for the high quality of the event.
Finland’s average yearly wine consumption is comparatively low (8,36 litres per person in 2001), but is increasing. Consumer patterns show a trend towards increased dry white wine consumption although the red wine consumption, coherent with the international trend, is also rising. This offers a promising audience for exhibitors of both dry white and red wines. Particularly interesting for Austria is the popularity of sweet wines in Finland, which is reflected in the participation of Austrian wineries specializing in the production of noble sweet wines.
Seminars
Austria is being given a high profile by the ViiniExpo organisers and Austrian special events are being highlighted. An introductory seminar is being offered for consumers as well as a seminar for sommeliers and trade specialists that will be lead by the famous Finish sommelière Juha Lihtonen. The main event of the wine fair will be the big Austrian seminar with a tasting of mature Grüner Veltliners and noble sweet wines. This event will be commentated by one of Finland’s leading wine celebrities, Dr. med. Georg H. Borgstöm, who also won the Bacchus Prize 2002 for his patronage of Austrian wine.
Austrian Wine & Food bar (booth number: 4C17)
A total of 31 Austrian vintners with 72 wines will be presented in Helsinki. A special attraction will be the Austrian tasting bar, which will offer not only wines, but also sample portions of tasty regional dishes. Sommeliers will be at hand to offer visitors specialized food and wine pairing recommendations.
