Golden Parker Points for AustriaPhaenomenal success of home producers(AWM - July 2002) - The most recent edition (141) of Robert Parker's "Wine Advocate" is dominated by Austria. After an extensive tasting journey through Styria, Lower Austria, and the Burgenland, Parker's right-hand man, Pierre Rovani, directly summarizes his findings: "the Austrians were welcoming, gracious, and passionate about their work. More importantly, their wines are superb." In view of Parker's pivotal role for the US wine market the news could not be better. Wine Marketing Director Michael Thurner is enthusiastic about the high praise, which has appeared just in time for the Vienna Symposium of Masters of Wine. "Nearly every producer tasted had more than one wine over 90 points. Among the highly-rated wines are also many Grüner Veltliners and this will surely give a lift to the great Austrian varietal. This is immensely valuable," says Thurner. "We have to remain committed to reforming our wine landscape and to increasing exports. The producers who have now been awarded high Parker points have proven already that this is a good strategy." Press Release |
