Austrian Wine at Viiniexpo

(AWMB, March, 2002) - More than 20 exhibitors from various regions will present Austrias wine specialities to trade and press at the Viiniexpo in Helsinki.

With a series of top quality harvests, the conditions for export are excellent. The fact that more and more wine lists of good restaurants all around the world feature Austria is an excellent indicator of the high recognition of the diverse wine-growing regions around Vienna.

The head of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, Michael Thurner, is very happy with the latest developments, "International wine connoisseurs consider Austria a valuable addition to the wine market. They enjoy the cool and fresh style of our dry white wines, the precise, deep fruit of our reds and the power and balance of our sweet dessert wines."

In 2001 Austria exported over 300 000 hl, about 15% of its average production. Austrian producers are proud to look back on five excellent years in succession. The wines harvested during this period have received international critical acclaim for the expressiveness of their individual terroirs, and for the character of fruit-driven, indigenous varietals such as Grüner Veltliner, or Zweigelt.
