Strong Austrian participation

ProWein

(AWMB, February 1999) - from March 21 - 23, 1999, 100 wine exhibitors from Austria had offered their answer to the international competition in an area of 650m² at ProWein in Düsseldorf, the most important wine trade fair in Germany.

A joint stand has been organized by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Austrian Wine Marketing service Association. The wine land of Austria has never before shown such a strong presence at an event abroad.

The large participation alone shows not just the status of ProWein, but also the importance of the German market for Austria's wine economy. Current figures from the Federal Office of Statistics in Wiesbaden show, until November '98, a turnover increase of 16.8 per cent in volume, and 25.4 per cent in value against the comparable period in the previous year. By the end of the year, the total volume of exports to Germany will be more than 120,000 hectoliters.

Thus, 70 per cent of Austria's wine exports go to Germany. This is an opportunity for many new producers who may use ProWein to present their wines in Germany and to make their first trade contacts.

Additional to the joint stand were to be found wines from Austria on the stands of the Lenz Moser Wine Cellars and the Kaisergarten Wine Distributors.

The Austrian joint stand: hall 8, stand designations E36 - F39.
