Importance of the Sommelier World Championship to Austria and Partners

ASI-Sommelier World Championship 1998 in Vienna

- June, 1998) - Austria will be the center of attention of the culinary
world for one week through its staging of the IX. Sommelier World Championship
1998 in Vienna. As the host country, Austria will provide topics of conversation
before and after the event.
Over 250 sommeliers, gastronomes, wine experts and journalists from
30 countries will be staying in Vienna between May 31 and June 8, 1998,
touring the wine regions and enjoying the culinary and drink culture of
Austria along with the qualifications and final competitions.
What will be communicated with the competition?
- The organizers primary objective of the event is presenting the occupation
with the gastronomic and drink culture at the highest level to the general
public .The event's exciting presentation of the thematic will stir
emotions, maintain actuality and awaken public interest.
- The occupation of the "Sommelier" becomes tangible for everyone,
its tasks and responsibilities better known and its image elevated.
- The "working tools" of the sommelier, such as wine, distillate,
beverages, the associated food as well as the accessories of the gastronomy
are dominantly displayed. Their individuality and character are clearly
expressed through the intensive, professional exposition.
- In a subtle way, public relations and information work are benefiting
not only the occupation of the sommelier, but also all products in his
environment.
Along with the organizers, the sommeliers club of Austria (Club der Sommellerie
Österreichs), the entire wine business, beverage industry, gastronomy,
manufacturing companies and the institutions of Austria have an unique
opportunity of drawing attention and profiling themselves to opinion and
decision makers from all over the world.
