German Wins Sommelier World Championships Norbert Waldnig - a sensational third

Sommelier-WM(AWM, June 1998) - At the finale of the Sommelier World Championships held on June, 6th, 1998 at the Vienna Hofburg, in which there were participants from 29 countries of Europe, Asia, and America, Markus de Monego from Germany reigned supreme. The vice-champion was Eric Beaumard from France. Norbert Waldnig, from the Hotel Kapeller in Innsbruck, was able to claim a magnificent third place for Austria with his convincing performance.

The Sommelier World Championships was one of the main focuses at the VieVinum Wine Festival, in which not only more than 400 Austrian vintners took part, but also numerous top producers from abroad participated.

Sommelier World Championships - finale after 1000km of Austria The combination of landscape, culture, gastronomy and the magnificent diversity of Austrian wines did not fail to have an effect with the ontology experts. Despite a strenuous program - participants covered a good 1000 kilometers in Lower Austria, Burgenland, and Styria within three days, including tastings - the impression that Austria, the land of wine, made on the international guests was lasting and good.

Representative of all participants, who came from all over Europe, Brazil, China, Japan, Canada, Korea, Cuba, Mexico, and the USA, was the Brazilian Roberto Rodriguez who said: "Austria is the land of wine to love."
