A Shower of Medals for Austrian Wine

(AWM, August 1997) - There were numerous awards and highest ratings for Austrian wines given in London, Brussels, Bordeaux and Hamburg.

At the "Concour Mondial de Bruxelles" (Belgium), the "Wine Challenge '97" in London (England), the "Challenge International Du Vin" (Bordeaux), in the competition "Les Grands Liquoreux du Monde" (presented by the magazine Culture et Gûot) and at the "Gran Prix Degustation" within the framework of the Hamburg Wine Salon, Austria's vintners celebrated triumphant success.

Gran Prix Degustation" (Hamburg):
13 Gran Prix d'Honneur, 16 Gran Prix
The most successful vintners were Ludwig Ehn from Langenlois and Helmut Lang, Illmitz.

Ludwig Ehn was not only distinguished in several categories, but was also nominated for the "Best Collection of the Year" prize.

Les Grands Liquoreux du Monde
The French gourmet magazine Culture et Gûot - as the organizer of the competition - awarded top places for the two wine estates of Franz Prager (Weissenkirchen) and Feiler-Artinger (Rust) for the best international sweet wines: 19.5 points for a 1994 Riesling (Prager) and the "Ruster Ausbruch" 1995 Essenzia (Feiler-Artinger). In only third place was a 1993 Chateau d'Yquem (19 points). A '95 Chardonnay (Kollwentz Wine Estate, Großhöflein), a 1994 "Schilf" wine Nekowitsch, Illmitz) and the 1993 "Ruster Ausbruch" from Feilinger-Artinger have been rated 19 points.
