Rendezvous of refined noses

(AWMB, June 1997) The final qualification of Salon Österreichicher Wein 1997/98 (200 top wines and 10 new wine and marc distillations) lasted three days (from the 26th - 28th May).

The refined noses of the international jury from the press and wine trade were able, of course, to execute their duty with great enjoyment.
The 306 candidates to be tasted blind for the Salon form a highly-decorated group among themselves. There are 246 winners from the provinces, respectively, regional pre-tastings, 40 candidates of the brand associations and 10 best-selling wines from the food retailers and the gastronomy. Only half - that is 153 - will received one of the 200 Salon places. From these wines, in a special tasting of the individual categories, will emerge the 12 Salon winners.

The other 47 wines, respectively, their producers, will be directly chosen for the Salon by the expert journalists and sommeliers. The 12 best positioned will form the "Chosen Circle."

The first presentation of the "Salon Österreichischer Wein 1997/98" will take place on June 26 in the Vienna Town Hall for invited guests. At the beginning of September begins the Austria Tour which has been awaited with great expectation by the many wine fans in the provinces.
